Carl Alexander Brooks

Carl Alexander Brooks was a regular guy in the very best sense of the word — a little  rough around the edges, deeply kind at heart, and always ready with a story, a joke, or a laugh. He passed away on January 8, 2026, at Carroll Hospital, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a lot of people who will miss him more than words can say.

Born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Carl carried that place with him wherever life took him. Cape Breton was never just where he was from — it was home in his heart, a place he loved fiercely and spoke of often.

Carl loved the joy of everyday life. He was happiest watching the Pittsburgh Penguins or cheering for the Baltimore Ravens, playing horseshoes, fishing, following harness racing, or relaxing at home — especially floating in the pool with Valerie, enjoying each other’s company and the fun they shared together.

Carl spent his career in the seafood industry, a field he took great pride in and truly loved. His work allowed him to travel the world, and he delighted in sharing stories from places like Thailand and China with anyone who would listen. As a seafood manager, Carl was known not just for his deep knowledge, but for the way he treated people. Customers were friends, and friends were always welcome. He believed in honest work, great service, and taking care of people.

Above all else, Carl was a storyteller. He loved a good joke, a good laugh, and a room full of people enjoying themselves. He had a way of making ordinary moments memorable, simply by being himself. Carl is survived by his loving wife Valerie, whose companionship filled his life. He is also survived by his grandson Noah, who lives in Canada and of whom Carl was always proud. Carl is lovingly remembered as well by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ruby Brooks; his son Benjamin; his daughter Katherine; and his brother Tom.

Carl will be remembered for his heart, his humor, his stories, and the way he made people feel welcome. Carl understood that life is short and nothing is guaranteed. He believed in living fully, laughing often, and not taking himself — or life — too seriously. It is a lesson he lived by and one he would hope others carry forward.
