Arlene Carole Rice

Arlene Carole Rice, 85, of Taneytown, Maryland, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026, at Lorien in Taneytown, surrounded in her final days by her loving family, friends, and the devoted Lorien staff.

Born on August 20, 1941, in Baltimore, Maryland, Arlene was the daughter of the late George Theodore Richardson and Dorothy Gold Richardson. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl S. Bell, in 2003; her husband, Donald W. Rice, in 2014; and her sister, Virginia Vollmer. She is survived by her two sons, Mark Davey and his wife Deanna of Tucson, Arizona, and Scott Davey and his wife Kelly of Westminster, Maryland; as well as her step-daughter, Connie Mauk and her husband Larry of Graniteville, South Carolina.

A 1959 graduate of Glen Burnie High School, Arlene retired from the Carroll County Government, where she held various roles in the Office of Land Acquisitions. In retirement, she enjoyed playing golf as a member of the Piney Branch Golf Club in Hampstead. After spending time living in Florida and South Carolina, she returned to Westminster in 2015 to be closer to her family. The following year, she moved to Carroll Vista in Taneytown, where she became a highly active member of the community, frequently helping with HOA-sponsored events.

A natural social butterfly, Arlene loved a good party and thrived in the company of others—whether she was participating in social activities at the golf club or hosting bingo nights at her local church. She also had a passion for travel, taking many memorable trips with family and friends over the years.

At home, Arlene had a deep love for animals, especially her two best feline companions, Saddie and Allie. She took great pride in decorating her house and landscaping her property with a beautiful multitude of flowers and plants.

During her recent time at Lorien, she stayed engaged in many activities. She especially loved painting and crafting, leaving behind many handmade pieces for her loved ones to cherish.

Though she was deeply social, Arlene requested a private interment rather than a formal funeral service. She will be profoundly missed by her family, her friends, and the caring staff at Lorien.
